The American Civil War
  1st Bull Run; 21 July 1861   scale: 1:300, start: 12am, dark: 10pm, 1 game turn = 30 min, 12 guns = 1 artillery

Brief background:
1st Bull Run was the first major engagement of the civil war. President Lincoln had ordered one Union army to pin the the Confederate army of the Shenandoah, while Brig Gnl Irvin McDowell was to march superior numbers against Beauregard's Army of the Potomac. The President ignored warnings that the Union forces were not fully trained. Speed of movement was of the essence, but McDowell was slow. Johnston pulled his Army of the Shenandoah away from its Union cover and arrived at Bull Run one day before McDowell attacked.

Game Notes:
- Fire & Fury publish an excellent 1st Bull Run scenario, which we have played to a Union victory. As an alternative, we propose a game where you can decide to engage all the available forces instead of those that were only historically engaged.
- Treat all units at starting strength for simplicity's sake, even though some had suffered losses by 12 noon.
