Battle of Ucles - an alternative
      scale: 1:75, weather = fine, start: 8am, dark: 6pm, time scale: 1 game turn = 30 min

Background:
With Napoleon in pursuit of Moore, Madrid held relatively few French troops. This prompted the Duke of Infantado to march to its liberation with the Spanish army of the Centre. Joseph Bonaparte, the new King of Spain, hurriedly drew reinforcements to his capital and then despatched Marshal Victor to intercept the Spanish army with 3 Divisions. At the town of Ucles, Victor encountered the Spanish vanguard under general Venegas, who had deployed his army in single line over a wide front with his cavalry to the fore. Outnumbered by the French, the poorly deployed Spanish troops were easily outmanoeuvred and defeated. An alternative: However, in order to make this battle more challenging, we can let the French face the entire Spanish army of the Centre and relax the historical deployment; instead, use the deployment rules and set up as you see fit. Game notes: Both sides need to deploy from their correct table edge viz. the terrain. Objective: French: decisively beat the Spanish. Spanish: Defeat the French so the march on Madrid and its liberation can continue.

Historical outcome:
French victory. The French flanking manoeuver resulted in the capture of most of the Spanish troops and the loss of their artillery.
