Sicily had entered a period of prosperity and relative peace with the establishment of democracies in its main polis (towns and cities). Conflict arose between the native Elymian town of Egesta and its Phoenician ally in the form of the town of Motya on the one side, and the nearby Greek settlement of Selinous and its allies on the other. The native Elymians and Siculi were furthermore motivated by a desire to regain territory lost to the Greeks during the previous 100 years.
 
     
 
Game notes
The warring forces met on the plain of the Mazaros river, on open ground. The Motyan ally general is reliable, as Punic Motya disliked the Greeks. The Akragintian ally general is also reliable.
